E books is print really dead?
Thursday, February 2nd, 2012 10:43pm

One of the biggest challenges of any publisher is to make sure that they not only keep up with the latest technology, but also make sure they have the latest hot trends available for their authors.

As most readers no doubt have read in the press, E books are a hot item right now. They are cheap, and fall into the growing technologies such as readers and pads. Also according to some sources print books are being outpaced dramatically by E books, and in fact are growing farther ahead in sales every month. Now normally this would be a point of huge concern, as E books do in fact have many advantages over print books. However saying that there are some things the people reporting these huge differences do not say.

1. The places they get data from are mainly Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
2. The figures include free E books, and also the new loaner books that in fact cost nothing.
3. Over 60 percent of those buying an E book will purchase the paper version within 90 days of the E book.
4. Even though E book sales have grown, the figures show actual "Book" sales have remained the same.

So yes E books outsell paper books, however you have to look at the real cause / effect of this. E books really have not effected sales of paper books. Yes they outsell them now. However they have not reduced the sales of paper books. So in essence as a publisher we are jumping on the E book wagon with a smile and a whistle, and have plans in 2012 to do many new and fun things such as...

1. Dedicated E book sales section.
2. Dedicated E book packages for those that want to publish just E books.

E books I am firmly convinced are here to stay, and I think they will only become more popular as the technology gets cheaper, and more accessible. 2 Moon Press is determined to keep up with this technology by cementing relationships with the five largest E Book sellers on the internet.

We will see what 2012 brings to this interesting technology.
